Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned imprinted concrete is a new skill technique. You can use colours and patterns on freshly poured concrete to make patios, driveways, or paths. This recreates the look of real materials like stone and slate as well as timber. We avoid the high costs associated with natural products.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, pattern concrete (also known by stamped concrete) involves pouring concrete over a subbase, then applying a colour followed by a hardener. This is quite different to traditional concreting, where you used blocks to create your finished.
Once the concrete is cured, the pattern is applied. There are many prints you can choose from. The most common include brickwork, textured stones, and ashlar. For driveway lining, patterned concrete is a popular option for domestic properties.
Good quality print
It is important to assess the quality of the printed concrete. Laying fresh concrete takes extreme care and dedication. Otherwise, the concrete will become inconsistent and cause a poor floor.
In most cases, contractors would use six to eight rigid printing matsa along with one flexible mat in each set. It is necessary to use six mats to span the narrowest section. However, flexible mats are used to access and to print areas that rigid mats won’t.
Although most printing mats measure 600x600mm in size, it is possible to order matts up to 600x600mm.
Colour Consistency
You should consider colour consistency when installing imprinted concrete. This will ensure that your flooring has the desired colour. Colour surface hardener is the main component of patterned concrete. Antique release agents are also important.
Poor final appearance can be caused by poor application of colour surface hardener. This is especially true for larger commercial jobs like retail shop flooring.
It may take several concrete deliveries for big commercial jobs. This could result in slight colour variations in each concrete mix. The purpose of the surface hardener is to match the colours together after they have been applied. This is ideal if you have a larger job that takes more than a few hours to complete.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
To ensure the durability of concrete floors above, the material used to sub-stone the base must be merged with the subgrade.
Additionally, the concrete mix used plays a significant role in ensuring the structural integrity is maintained for years to follow.
This is especially true in high-traffic areas like driveways, multi-storey parking lots, and warehouses where machinery is used daily.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.
For colder weather, you’ll need more, approximately 350-380kg.
To increase the floor’s durability, resistance to weather and wear, you can add an air entertaining agent.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
A solvent-based acrylic sealant can be applied to patterned concrete once it has dried. This will improve its appearance. Water-based acrylics can be more difficult to use on patterned concrete, so avoid them.
You can also apply the sealant once every four years to maintain the appearance and quality of your patterned concrete.
Although this is not a requirement, it will preserve your driveway (or other patterned concrete) for many more years.
